The results are in, and Japanese automaker Nissan has set a new Guinness World Record with its Nissan LEAF. Though the record centered around speed, the LEAF didn't go forward to achieve the title. In fact, the LEAF created a new speed record traveling backwards at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Nissan may be a Japanese automaker, but that doesn't mean that the company hasn't invested heavily in the United States auto market. Take its manufacturing plant in Canton, MS, for example. This plant currently produces the 2012 Nissan Altima, and it's about to gain another key vehicle: the Nissan Sentra. The plant will hire a thousand new workers for this purpose, leading to an overall total of five-thousand workers for the plant. This will also boost overall capacity at the plant to 450-thousand vehicles.

National Tire Safety Week kicked off across the country this past week, and Japanese auto manufacturer Nissan made a very special announcement that paired well with the event. There's almost nothing more important in today's world than staying connected. Last week, Nissan announced it will be upgrading its connectivity options for the Nissan LEAF EV and its popular Nissan Altima sedan. The new NissanConnect system will first launch on the 2013 Nissan Altima when it debuts this July and will include such features as Pandora Internet Radio, Google search, and Google Navigation. The LEAF will see improvements to its current Carwings communications system, including a feature that will improve driving range accuracy for the vehicle's battery.

It shouldn't lose its design identity altogether, but the Nissan Altima does seem to be receiving quite a dramatic refresh for the 2013 model year. Set to premiere at the New York Auto Show coming up soon in early April alongside the new Infiniti LE concept (luxury electric) sedan. The next-generation Altima has been spied testing in various markets, but it's still heavily camouflaged. We can spot a few new details on the new Altima, however.
